Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 is now a Recommendation

On 11 December 2008 W3C announced a new standard that will help Web designers and developers create sites that better meet the needs of
users with disabilities and older users. Drawing on extensive experience and community feedback, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
(WCAG) 2.0 improves upon W3C's groundbreaking initial standard for accessible Web content, applies to more advanced technologies,
and is more precisely testable.
Rayfields Accessibility will be advising our clients and ensuring all new or updated sites meet the new standard in 2009.

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Working Group has published
the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 as a Proposed Recommendation,
and published updated Working Drafts of Understanding WCAG 2.0, Techniques
for WCAG 2.0, and How to Meet WCAG 2.0.
WCAG defines how to make Web sites,
Web applications, and other Web content accessible to people with
disabilities. Comments are welcome through 2 December 2008. Read the

Watchfire WebXact and Bobby Online products will no longer be publicly available

The IBM company Watchfire has withdrawn WebXact and Bobby from the public
doamin. Watchfire say,"As of February 1, 2008 the Watchfire WebXact and Bobby Online products will no longer be publicly available.
As an IBM Company, Watchfire will continue to invest in accessibility through the IBM Rational Policy Tester Accessibility Edition

Accesskey and Tabindex articles - What are they

Two updated articles have been added to Rayfields Accessibility Consultants article index today, the first is about the html tag accesskeys and the second is about the html tag tabindex. Both articles explain what these tags are, how and where to use them, who could benefit from them and the pros and cons of each tag. Both articles come to a conclusion about using them in todays Web sites.

We have uploaded another article, this time we look at text and image captcha's. The purpose of a captcha is to allow
genuine users the ability to submit a form, whereas spammers, robots or automated methods should fail to be able to send a form
because they are unable to work out the answer.

The 1st October 2007 saw the DRC merge into the Equality and Human Rights Commission. The DRC is no longer a stand alone commission
